Glencadam Could Be Warrnambool Bound

Tuesday, 11th March 2014

Gai Waterhouse is excited about the prospect of transforming Gr1 flat performer Glencadam Gold (Refuse to Bend-Sandrella, by Darshaan) into a hurdler in time for the Warrnambool carnival in May, reports NZ Racing Desk. The 2012 Gr1 Metropolitan Handicap winner finished at that tail of the field when resuming in last Saturday's Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes, prompting connections to seriously consider his future. Waterhouse is now waiting to hear back from the former Irish galloper's owners before trialling him as a jumps horse. "He's got a lovely temperament and I think he'd make a wonderful jumps horse," Waterhouse said. "I've spoken with the owners and I'm awaiting their approval. How exciting it would be to have a horse like him take on a jumps career."
