Fiorente Wins Gr1 Australian Cup

At Flemington, 6YO Irish-bred gelding Fiorente (Monsun-Desert Bloom, by Pilsudski) scored by 0.5-length for trainer Gai Waterhouse in the $1 million Gr1 Australian Cup (2000m) for 3YO+, over 7YO Irish-bred entire Green Moon (Montjeu-Green Noon, by Green Tune) & 7YO UK-bred gelding Foreteller (Dansili-Prophecy, by Warning). Fiorente reinforced his status as Australia's pre-eminent racehorse in claiming his second Gr1 victory and took his record to 6 wins (including the last-start Gr2 Peter Young Stakes, Gr2 Tan Chin Nam Stakes & Gr2 Princess of Wales's Stakes) and 6 placings (including the Gr1 WS Cox Plate) from 18 starts for $6,111,314 earnings. Fiorente will now return to Sydney where he will be aimed at the Gr1 The BMW and the Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes during The Championships.
