James Says He Respects Star Mare's Rivals

Friday, 7th March 2014

Trainer Roger James is refusing to underestimate the opposition in Saturday's Gr1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m) at Ellerslie, in which his star mare Silent Achiever (O'Reilly-Winning Spree, by Zabeel) will start a dominant favourite, reports NZ Racing Desk. "Everything that could be there is there with The Solitaire, Shuka, Costume and Nashville and those four are all in good form and they are fit horses," James said. "A lot of people are thinking it's a walk-over, but I'm certainly not treating it that way. Her main aims are in Sydney and the BMW and the Sydney Cup - the further she goes the better she'll be." Silent Achiever surprised James when she lumped 60kg to win first-up over 1500 metres at Ellerslie last month and he says she has made good progress since. "I've been more than happy with her work and she's coming on at the right time," James said. "She'll appreciate the extra trip and Ellerslie again."
