Owner Buys Belle De Crecy As Treve Pacemaker

Tuesday, 4th March 2014

Sheikh Joaan Al Thani has purchased last season's Gr2 Blandford Stakes winner and British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes runner-up Belle De Crecy (Rock of Gibraltar-Bloemfontain, by Cape Cross) to act as a pacemaker for his undefeated Arc heroine Treve, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. The 5YO Rock Of Gibraltar mare, who was passed in for 850,000 guineas when offered at last year's Tattersalls December Breeding-Stock Sale, joined Treve at Criquette Head-Maarek's stables on Saturday. "Belle De Crecy is a really nice mare," Head-Maarek told Jour de Galop. "She has been purchased to serve as a pacemaker for Treve but I think other options will also be talked about. Nothing has been decided about her next start." Originally trained by Richard Hannon, Belle De Crecy last year joined the stable of Johnny Murtagh for whom she won three races, including her Blandford Stakes triumph over Midday's half-sister Hot Snap. On her final start last season, Belle De Crecy split Seal Of Approval and English Oaks winner Talent when runner-up in the Gr1 British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes at Ascot.
