Oakleigh Plate For Fast 'N' Rocking

Friday, 31st January 2014

Trainer David Hayes says he will keep classy 3YO Fast 'N' Rocking (Fastnet Rock-For the Good Times, by Hennessy) to sprint distances during the autumn, even nominating the Oakleigh Plate as a possible, albeit ambitious, target, reports horseracing.com.au. The Fastnet Rock colt will resume in the Gr3 Manfred Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday and if all goes to plan, Hayes would like him to run in the Gr1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield on 22 February. "It is a very, very tough race, but he does go well at Caulfield and he does sprint well fresh," Hayes told Sky Racing HQ. "I think that I will keep him as a fresh sprinter. He went up to Sydney for the Golden Rose and we were training him for the Guineas, but we changed our mind and it backfired. We will keep him as a specialist sprinter now and he might do the job for us." Proven big-race jockey Craig Williams will ride Fast 'N' Rocking on Saturday where he will take on a talented field of 3YOs that includes budding star Prince Harada, Sydney colt Bull Point, The Quarterback, and million dollar colt Monkstone. "I think that we will ride him patiently and provided it is not a sit and sprint he will be hard to beat," Hayes said.
