A Touch Of Ruby Wins Gr1 Thorndon Mile

Tuesday, 28th January 2014

At Trentham in New Zealand, Waikato Stud sire Pins (Snippets-No Finer, by Kaoru Star) celebrated a Gr1 triumph when 4YO mare A Touch Of Ruby (Pins - Syrah, by Traditionally) scored by 1-length for trainer Stephen Autridge in the NZ$200,000 Gr1 Thorndon Mile (1600m) for 3YO+, over fellow 4YO mare Costume (Savabeel-Disguised, by O'Reilly) & 4YO gelding Sacred Star (Flying Spur-Irish Nova, by O'Reilly). This was A Touch Of Ruby's first stakes victory and took her record to 4 wins & 4 placings from 16 starts for NZ$161,335 earnings. A Touch Of Ruby was purchased for NZ$50,000 by well known racing identity Max Whitby at the 2011 NZB Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Trelawney Stud. Winning trainer Stephen Autridge commented: "That was her final start. Se is in foal to Jimmy Choux and this was always going to be her last start," reports breednet.com.au. "We were hoping she could finish in the first four home so to win the race is a dream come true."
