Ocean Park Half-Sister Off The Mark

Friday, 28th June 2013

Regally named and royally bred, 3YO filly Lady Sayyida (Iffraaj-Sayyida, by Zabeel), the half-sister to Gr1 Cox Plate winner and freshman Waikato Stud stallion Ocean Park (by Thorn Park), delivered at only her second outing earlier this week when running away with a Limited 3YO event at Te Teko, reports theinformant.co.nz. Sayyida, who won 2 of her 5 starts before injured curtailed her career, was considered highly enough to contest a Gr2 even at her final race. She has also left a Pins yearling, purchased by trainer Peter Moody at the 2013 NZB Karaka Premier Yearling Sale for a hefty NZ$775,000. Lady Sayyida was also an expensive yearling buy, bought by trainer Roger James at the NZB Select Sale in 2011 for NZ$290,000 from the draft of Trelawney Stud. James commented on the performance, "You have to be impressed by that... I wouldn't say she was the happiest in the ground either. He also crystal balled: "Sayyida was the makings of a really good horse... So hopefully Lady Sayyida can add some black type to this win today. She looks to have a future but it's only a mid-week maiden at Te Teko."
