US Freshman Roi Charmant Sires 1st Winner
Still in the US, Gr2-placed Roi Charmant (Evansville Slew-Cantina, by Seattle Dancer) sired his first winner when Pheisty Kid (Roi Charmant-Pheiffer, by Lyphaness) won a maiden 2YO event at Golden Gate Fields, reports bloodhorse.com. The 2YO gelding won by a half-length over a 10 horse field at only his second start. Roi Charmant retired in 2010 following a four-race winning streak, with earnings of $337,678. In the money in 18 of his 27 starts, he recorded a total of eight wins on dirt, turf, and over synthetic courses and had career earnings of US$337,678. He was 3rd in Gr2 Potrero Grande Breeders Cup Handicap, 2nd in Gr3 San Miguel Stakes and failed to finish in his only Gr1 start, Hollywood Park's Triple Bend Invitational Handicap, after bobbling at the start and losing his jockey, Victor Espinoza. All up he won 8 and placed in 10 of his 25 starts. Roi Charmant currently stands at Magali Farms near Santa Ynez, California, for a fee of US$1,000.
