Tuesday, 11th June 2013

Late last week, the British Horseracing Authority charged Newmarket trainer Gerard Butler "with seven breaches of the Rules relating to the administering of drugs to racehorses", reports telegraph.co.uk. The charges relate to 9 horses trained by Butler that tested positive when tested by BHA officials on February 20. The BHA's list of charges include: "Acting in a manner prejudicial to the integrity and proper conduct/good reputation of racing by administering steroids. Administering intra-articular injections himself despite not being a qualified vet and failing to keep a record of five treatments." If found guilty, Butler could be banned for up to 10 years. Meanwhile, the BHA has intimated up to another 10 Newmarket trainers, some of whom include "the biggest names" could also be charged over similar offences in due course.
