Niagara Foundation Stallion For NZ Lime Country

Friday, 7th June 2013

New Zealand's Lime Country Thoroughbreds will stand Niagara (Encosta de Lago-River Song, by Fusaichi Pegasus) as their foundation stallion at Hawke's Bay, reports the informant.co.nz. A $620,000 yearling at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, Niagara won the Gr2 Ajax Stakes in Sydney, in addition to placing in the Gr2 Sandown Guineas, Gr3 Norman Robinson Stakes & Listed Eskimo Prince Handicap. The Gai Waterhouse-trained entire was owned by a partnership that included successful owner Yvonne Smith & Coolmore Stud. Lime Country Thoroughbreds' Jo Griffin says, "Standing a stallion is something we've been contemplating seriously for the past two years but only now have we found the horse we feel would do justice to our ambitions. We really wanted to stand a horse that we had confidence in from our own perspective and that of our clients." Niagara descends from the damline that has produced Redoute's Choice, Umatilla & Hurricane Sky. He will stand for NZ$5,000 in his debut season.
