2011 Belmont Hero Still Seeking Elusive 2nd Stakes Win

Wednesday, 5th June 2013

In US racing news, 2011's US$1 million Gr1 Belmont Stakes hero Ruler On Ice (Roman Ruler-Champagne Glow, by Saratoga Six) is chasing further stakes success in this weekend's Gr2 Brooklyn Handicap over 2400m at the same track of his Gr1 success, reports bloodhorse.com. The now 5YO gelding concluded his 3YO year with three Gr1 placings, but was seen out only once in 2012.  More successful in 2013, Ruler on Ice has won a minor race and placed in a Listed race. He faces 7 rivals in his toughest test in two years. Ruler On Ice (a US$100,000 yearling at the 2009 Keeneland September Sale) is a half-brother to US multiple Gr1-winner Champagne D'Oro. Overall he has 4 wins (including 2011's Gr1 Belmont Stakes over 2400m) & 8 placings (including last start's 2nd in the Listed Majestic Light Stakes, as well as 2011's Gr1 Haskell Stakes over 1800m, Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic over 2400m and Gr2 Pennsylvania Derby over 1800m, Listed Federico Tesio Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Pimlico & Gr3 Yuletide Derby over 9 furlongs at Sunland Park) from 20 starts for US$1,690,276 earnings.
