Verrazano Half-Brother Retired To Stud
In US breeding news, one of last year's leading Gr1 Kentucky Derby contenders, El Padrino, has been retired and will stand at Northview Stallion Station, reports drf.com. Trained by Todd Pletcher, the son of high profile sire Pulpit won his Maiden by almost 13-lengths before following his Gr2 Remsen Stakes placing with a win in the Gr2 Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds. Injured in the Kentucky Derby, a fleeting comeback attempt was thwarted by "niggling injuries", and the US$210,000 Keeneland September yearling graduate was pulled out of training in April. El Padrino is a half-brother to celebrated US Gr1-winning 3YO Verrazano, both being out of a daughter of Gr1 winner Enchanted Rock, a full-sister to champion Queena.
