Powerful Aust/Asian Partnership Enjoys First Success
On the back of a substantial bloodstock investment at the recent Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, it has taken very little time for the China Horse Club to enter the winner's circle in the Southern Hemisphere with the superbly bred 2YO filly Scarlet Moretta (Fastnet Rock-Venetian Lady, by Woodman) scoring a decisive debut victory at Sale on Sunday, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. An astute $300,000 purchase by DGR Thoroughbreds from the draft of Kia Ora Stud when Lot 2 at the 2012 Easter Yearling Sale, the filly is raced in conjunction with the China Horse Club by Dato Tan Chin Nam and a Kia Ora Stud syndicate. Scarlet Moretta is closely related to Gr1 EP Taylor Stakes winning filly Volga (by Riverman) and her Gr1-winning half-sister Vallee Enchantee (by Peintre Celebre), who captured the Gr1 Hong King Vase. The family also boasts dual Gr1 winning French-based colt Vespone (by Llandaff) and, from an Australian perspective, Gr1 Melbourne Cup runner-up Purple Moon (by Galileo). The China Horse Club won out on 8 yearlings at the 2013 Easter Yearling Sale, including two of the sale's nine-figure purchases.
