Monday, 9th July 2012

Dual Gr1-winning former Australian champion 1st-season sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) added a UK juvenile black-type success (& 51st individual stakes-winner world-wide) when Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's favoured colt Morawij (Exceed And Excel-Sister Moonshine, by Piccolo) scored a 2.25-lengths victory in the £23,000 (A$37,000) Listed Dragon Stakes (5 furlongs) for 2YOs at Sandown Park. Morawij (ridden by Neil Callan for trainer Roger Varian) defeated Irish-bred filly Lasilia (Acclamation-Vasilia, by Dansili) & fellow colt Botanic Garden (Royal Applause-Rock Lily, by Rock Of Gibraltar). Morawij was originally a 24,000 guineas (A$40,000) weanling at the 2010 UK Tattersalls December Sale & subsequently a 120,000 guineas (A$198,000) yearling at the 2011 Tattersalls October Sale. Overall he now has 2 wins from 3 starts for £19,327 (A$31,000) earnings.
