Sacred Kingdom Wins Gr1 HK Sprint

Coolmore sire Encosta De Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) added a Gr1 triumph when Australian-bred multiple Gr1-winning & 2008 World Champion sprinter 6YO gelding Sacred Kingdom (Encosta de Lago-Courtroom Sweetie, by Zeditave) – who also won this race in 2007 – scored a 0.5-length victory in yesterday's HK$12 million (A$1.7m) Gr1 Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin. Sacred Kingdom (ridden by Brett Prebble for trainer Ricky Yiu) defeated fellow Australian-bred 5YO gelding One World (Danehill Dancer-River Serenade, by Hurricane Sky) & 6YO gelding Joy And Fun (Cullen-Gin Player, by Defensive Play). Sacred Kingdom (a $200,000 yearling consigned by Kornong Stud at the 2005 Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne) took his record to 12 wins (also including last start's Gr2 Cathay Pacific International Sprint Trial over 1200m at Sha Tin plus May's HK Gr2 Sprint Cup over 1200m at Sha Tin, plus 2008's UK Gr1 Chairman's Sprint Prize over 1200m & Gr2 Gome Sprint over 1200m, plus 2007's Gr1 HK International Sprint over 1200m, Gr2 HK International Sprint Trial over 1200m & Gr3 HK Sprint Trophy over 1000m) & 4 placings (including February's HK Gr1 Chairman's Sprint Prize over 1200m, plus 2008's HK Gr1 Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup over 1400m & HK Gr1 Centenary Sprint Cup over 1000m) from 20 starts. Australian sprinters Apache Cat finished 7th and All Silent finished 8th.
