Doncaster Yearlings Day-1: $462k Dubawi Colt
The British yearling sales season began with the opening session of the 3-day Doncaster Bloodstock St Leger Sale in Yorkshire, where Dubai-based owner Malih Al Basti out-bid Angus Gold from Shadwell Estates & paid the Day-1 top price of £220,000 (A$462,000) for a colt from the 1st-crop of triple Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Dubawi (out of Lear Fan mare Hasten). The colt (consigned from Hillwood Stud) is from the immediate family of Gr3-winner Fantastic View & was previously sold for 55,000 guineas (A$121,000) as a foal at the Tattersalls December sale. Al Basti (a leading figure in the Emirates Racing Association) told racingpost.co.uk: "He needs to grow, so will go back to Raffin Stud now. He'll be broken in by Malcolm Bastard in October, but I should think it will be 6-8 months before he goes into training. My horses here are with Richard Hannon, Kevin Ryan, Henry Cecil & Karl Burke, but I don't know who he'll be going to yet. I liked this colt very much & I also own Fantastic View, who is a half-brother to his dam. My dream is to win the Dubai World Cup one day. This is my first time at Doncaster. I went through the catalogue & liked the pedigrees, so decided to come here."
