Lush Lashes Wins UK Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes

Monday, 25th August 2008

Former Coolmore shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a Gr1 triumph when 3YO filly Lush Lashes (Galileo-Dance For Fun, by Anabaa) came from last to score a 1.25-lengths victory in the £90,000 (A$189,000) Gr1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks (12 furlongs) for fillies & mares at Newmarket. Favourite Lush Lashes (ridden by Kevin Manning for trainer Jim Bolger) led in a 3YO-filly-trifecta against their older rivals in defeating Dar Re Mi (Singspiel-Darara, by Top Ville) & US-bred Michita (Dynaformer-Thunder Kitten, by Storm Cat). At her previous start 3 weeks ago Lush Lashes finished runner-up (beaten a head) in the UK Gr1 Nassau Stakes (10 furlongs) at Goodwood, after winning June's UK Gr1 Coronation Stakes (8 furlongs) at Royal Ascot. Lush Lashes was an €80,000 (A$136,000) yearling at the 2006 Goffs Million Sale & last season won the Goffs Fillies Million as a 2YO. This season she also won May's UK Gr3 Musidora Strakes (10.5 furlongs) at York & overall now has 4 wins & a runner-up from 8 starts for £1,005,935 (A$2.112m) earnings.
