Singapore Internationals Update: Spin Around
Meanwhile among the contenders for Sunday's S$3 million (A$2.4m) Gr1 Singapore Airlines International Cup (2000m), Australian-born & recently New Zealand-based jockey Gavin McKeon "was reacquainted with" Australian-bred & NZ-trained 7YO Spin Around (Spinning World-Be Yourself, by Noalcoholic) "for the first time since running 4th in the Gr1 Auckland Cup (3200m) in March," reported the Singapore Turf Club's official tracknotes. The pair combined to win NZ's Gr1 Avondale Gold Cup (2200m) last December & yesterday "McKeon galloped the gelding over 1600m, running home his final 600m in 35.4sec". McKeon commented: "He had a big blow after the work-out, He had to have a hard gallop to get him to extend. He pulled up well from the work-out despite having a good blow. The way he's going, he's right on track." McKeon explained trainer Steven Cooper "had to freshen Spin Around after he contested staying races in NZ over summer" & noted: "Steve's worked hard to get the speed back in his legs. I don't think he'll have to do too much with him now. He wants me to come down on Friday & work him, just a sprint-up which should top him off." Cooper added Spin Around would have a "wind sprint" on Friday & emphasised: "He needed today's gallop desperately. It was all about stretching his muscles & making sure he's nice & flexible. He's not a horse that needs a lot of hard galloping."
