Tall Timbers Wins Newcastle Newmarket

Thursday, 23rd March 2006

In Australia, previously undefeated Bentley Biscuit's 8-race winning sequence came to an end & Widden Stud shuttler Anabaa (Danzig-Balbonella, by Gay Mecene) added a group success when bottom-weighted 6YO gelding Tall Timbers (Anabaa-Isle Of Pines, by Kris) finished strongly down the outside to catch the top-weighted front-running favourite in the last 100m & score a half-length victory in yesterday's $120,000 Gr3 Newmarket Handicap (1400m) at Broadmeadow in Newcastle. Tall Timbers (ridden by Darryl McLennan for trainer Darren Smith) defeated 4YO geldings Bentley Biscuit (Peintre Celebre-Tycoon Joy, by Last Tycoon) & Gorgonite (Filante-Red Cerise, by Red Anchor). Tall Timbers (passed-in as a yearling for $325,000 at the 2001 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) now has 6 wins (also including the 2004 Gr3 Easter Cup at Caulfield) & 5 placings in 17 starts for $286,850 prize-money.
