Starcraft Plays Up Before Race

Monday, 4th July 2005

Starcraft's UK jockey Philip Robinson "argued the Australian import had lost his chance of winning the Gr1 Eclipse Stakes before he had set one hoof on the racecourse," reported racingpost.co.uk. Starcraft "raced keenly through the early stages & was still tanking early in the straight, only to find nothing off the bridle". Robinson summed up: "I travelled well & I was where I wanted to be, but his antics in the paddock (before the race) took it out of him." And trainer Luca Cumani told The Daily Telegraph: "Disregard that run & give him another chance. He had run his race before they got to the stalls. He got too geed-up & sweated badly & by the time they were ready to race, his nervous energy had taken its toll. We will have to work on that before making any plans to race him again. I'll give him paddock schooling on race days at Newmarket to make sure it doesn't happen again."
