Artie Schiller Overview
Successful sire Artie Schiller, who returns to Victoria this season, unearthed another potential star and completed an outstanding week of winners with lightly raced Hawkish strolling to an impressive three length win in the Gr 2 Penn Mile, on turf in the US during June. It was the seventh winner for the week for Artie Schiller from limited starters and improved his resumé to 41 stakes-winners, five of which have won at Gr1 level.
On the Australian front Artie Schiller posted eight winners in the same week to complete an outstanding month of 16 winners, typifying his impressive strike rate.
Artie Schiller returns to Victoria this season at Stockwell Thoroughbreds, Diggers Rest ,where he stood before transferring to Aquis Farm in the Hunter Valley for the past two seasons. His move to NSW followed from the outstanding success he achieved from his earlier books in Victoria, headlined by the World Champion 3YO Flying Artie. Flying Artie was retired to stud last year after an outstanding two and three year old career and served a full book of quality mares at Newgate Stud.
Artie Schiller has been purchased and syndicated by Victorian interests and returns to stand at a fee of $13,200 (inc GST) under the care of Mike and Brodie Becker who were instrumental in bringing him to Australia in 2007.
From a modest mare base, Artie Schiller was second only to Written Tycoon in the first season sires honours in Victoria but elevated himself to prominence by taking the title of Australia’s Leading Second Season Sire.
“We rested Artie from shuttle service in his fourth season as we thought that was in the best interests of his welfare but sadly it had a detrimental effect on his career subsequently with a crop missing, causing him to drop off the commercial radar in this very competitive market,” said Stockwell’s Brodie Becker.
Artie Schiller is also the sire of the Gai-Waterhouse Gr1 winner Lazer Hawk. The success of both his Group winners highlights the versatility of Artie Schiller, with one a precocious and speedy younger colt and the other a classic three year old winning the 2012 Rosehill Guineas before a gallant third in the Australian Derby after suffering a career ending injury.
Throughout his career at stud, Artie Schiller has built an impressive 70% winner to runner ratio and a very high 5% stakes-winner to runner percentage. His progeny earnings have now exceeded $50 million.
His other Australian stakeswinners include Good Standing, I Love It, Vain Queen, Lady Melksham, Daytona Grey, Secret Liaison, Dornier and the current highly promising staying mare Wheal Leisure. He is also the sire of three Gr1 winners in the US with Hawkish looking a real chance to stretch that number.
Artie Schiller’s yearlings have always been strong sellers at the major sales and again this year have reached to $200,00.
Following two lovely books of mares in NSW which will invariably help ensure his future racetrack success and sales presence, Brodie Becker is excited about Artie Schiller’s return to Victoria, enthusing, “We are delighted to have him back and provide this state with a quality proven stallion at an affordable fee.”

Artie Schiller's Return A Boost For VictoriaTue, 7 Aug 2018
The much anticpated return to Victoria this season of high profile stallion Artie Schiller has his connections looking forward to the 2018 breeding season which starts in just over three weeks. An incredibly versatile and prolific winner-getter (70% winners to runners), the son of El Prado spent the past two seasons at Aquis Farm's Hunter Valley property in NSW, but will now return permanently to Stockwell Thoroughbreds, run by Mike and Brodie Becker, where his Australian career began. With 5% stakes-winners to runners, Artie Schiller's 5 Group 1 winners (including Australia's world top-ranked 3YO sprinter Flying Artie) and a large list of black-type winners underpin global progeny earnings approaching $60 million. Standing for $13,200, his yearlings remain in strong demand, fetching up to $200,000 at major sales this year. "It was obviously a sad day when commercial pressures saw Artie move to NSW but the reality is that he has received two lovely books of mares which will help ensure his future racetrack success and sales presence," noted Brodie Becker. "We are delighted to have him back and provide this state with a quality proven stallion at an affordable fee."

Artie Schiller Returns to VICWed, 9 May 2018
Highly successful stallion Artie Schiller will return to stand in Victoria at Stockwell Thoroughbreds at Diggers Rest. Stockwell have put together a syndicate to purchase Artie Schiller (El Prado) to return him to the State where he has made his name as a quality and consistent sire. He has stood the past two seasons at Aquis Stud in NSW where he has received quality books of mares. Artie Schiller continues to produce high quality performers in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres since. Shuttling back to his native USA each year until this year, he has built up an imposing record of more than $50 million in progeny earnings and had 39 stakes winners among his 571 winners to date from 827 runners. His best performed Australian progeny include Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Flying Artie and Gr1 Rosehill Guineas winner Laser Hawk. The sale of Artie Schiller to Stockwell from Emirates Park Stud and Winstar Farm in the US, was brokered by Mathew Becker, of Group 1 Bloodstock. He will stand at a fee of $13,200 (inc. GST).

Flying Artie Sibling to TrialMon, 17 Jul 2017
Give, a Helmet half-brother to Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Flying Artie, will trial over 760m at Cranbourne today, reports ANZ Bloodstock News. The 2YO has had just the three starts with his best performance being a second on debut, but trainer John Moloney expects him to develop into a nice prospect over the spring. Such is Moloney’s opinion of Give that he has nominated the Caulfield Guineas as a potential target. “So far, so good and he is shaping well. It is trialling time at the moment, so we will see how he presents,” Moloney said. “I feel he will get out over a bit of ground, but he will also be a much sharper horse this preparation.” He added: “He’s got a great action and gets over a bit of ground with his stride. Once he gets that going with his rhythm and action he should be able to develop into a handy horse.” Raced by a syndicate including Newgate Farm, China Horse Club Racing, Blake Sandblom, and Paul Whelan’s Luskin Park Stud who bred him, Flying Artie (Artie Schiller-Flying Ruby, by Rubiton) retired to Newgate Farm earlier this year with 3 wins from 7 starts for $1.28 million in earnings, highlighted by his brilliant win in the stallion-making Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes last spring.
MM Weanling Sale Day-2: $320K for Exceed And Excel ColtMon, 29 May 2017
It was a case of deja vu on the Gold Coast on Friday as a colt by Exceed and Excel topped day two of the 2017 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale. Consigned by Rothwell Park, the colt from Doctrine was knocked down to Julian Blaxland of Blue Sky Bloodstock for $320,000. On the corresponding day last year the colt's full brother also took top honours when selling for $350,000. The colts are the first two progeny of the unraced Artie Schiller mare Doctrine, a half-sister to five winners including the $1.55 million earner Rain Affair. "I thought he was a lovely horse," Blaxland said. "He's by one of the world's great sires in Exceed and Excel; he's done the job obviously here in Australia but also up in the Northern Hemisphere…I thought he was one of the better colts of the sale."
